WinZip has been the leading
Windows-based archive utility for years -- and the 8.0 version
continues this tradition. You'll still find the tight drag-and-drop
and context menu integration with Windows Explorer; the choice
of the WinZip Classic or Wizard interfaces; and built-in support
for .zip, .tar, gzip, UUencode, XXencode, BinHex, and MIME formats
(plus support for .arj, .lzh, and .arc files through external
programs). The new Zip and Email feature compresses documents
and folders and attaches the zip file to an email message without
leaving Explorer. The Wizard can now create and update zip files,
as well as extract and install from MIME and similar encoded files.
An optional Explorer-style toolbar is now available in the WinZip
Classic mode. When creating or updating an archive, WinZip automatically
stores the same subfolders and folder information that Windows
Explorer would use for a similar copy operation. Plus, WinZip's
new automatic theme and screen saver installer makes setting up
desktop themes and monitor protectors from Internet downloads
a piece of cake.
