Zlurp!(2.23mb) Despite its funny sounding name, Zlurp! is a fairly serious solution for ripping CD tracks, encoding them to .mp3 or .wma format, and tagging them with full CDDB functionality -- and it's free. Zlurp! offers a clean-looking interface, includes the files necessary to change .wavs or CD tracks to .mp3 or .wma files, and -- despite its sparse documentation -- is easy to use. The ID3 version 1 tag format is supported, with some support for ID3 version 2 included as well. Other nice features include normalization, crisp-sounding audio cues, and the ability get extended artist information from CDNow or CD Universe. If you're on a budget, Zlurp! is an excellent way to make .mp3 and .wma files.
